Shocking trade
It appears as though the rumors were true. In the past few
weeks there has been a lot of speculation about the Raptors and what they are
going to do to continuously build up their team and make it better. The rumor
was that the raptors were thinking about giving up their back-up point guard Jose
Calderon for someone who would give them more of a dominant presence on the
court. This however was only a rumor and not many believed it to be true,
seeing as how Calderon was one of the raptors most reliable and top scoring
players. Calderon was the Raptors longest serving player since 2005; he had played
his whole career so far with Toronto. Although Calderon had lost his starting
position to Lowry this season he was still one of our go-to guys when
situations were tough. He was known for making the 3-piont shots that the
raptors needed sometimes to keep them in the game. As good as Calderon was for
our Raptors team, it seems as though they thought we needed something new. In
the previous days the Raptors traded not only Calderon but also Ed Davis to the
Memphis Grizzlies for their small forward Rudy Gay. Gay is one of the Grizzlies
top scorers and he had also been with them for his entire NBA career thus far. It is uncertain how this trade will play out
for the raptors because they received a small forward instead of another point guard
or even shooting guard that could also handle the ball in tough situations.
This puts more pressure on Lowry to step up his game because now he does not
have a steady backup anymore. We hope that this trade is favorable for our Raptors
team and maybe it will give them the push that we need. Unfortunately for Raptors
Starting small forward Alan Anderson he is now going to have to share his spot
with a new star. But Gay might just be that powerful presence that our team
needs to finish.
